The Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA) has honoured
Gelian Hotel as the best hotel in the Eastern, Northern, and Samburu regions,
in recognition of excellence in service and quality within Kenya’s hospitality
sector.
The award was presented during a ceremony held in
Nairobi on Saturday, where TRA highlighted its ongoing efforts to raise service
standards across the country and position Kenya as a leading global tourism
destination.
TRA Director Alex Munyao urged county governments,
private sector players, and hospitality professionals to work closely with the
authority in improving the quality of Kenya’s tourism offerings.
“I urge all county governments, private sector
partners, and professionals to strengthen collaboration with TRA in making
Kenya an attractive quality destination and ultimately a destination of
choice,” he said.
TRA Director-General Nobert Tallam said the
authority’s mark of quality is designed to guide establishments in enhancing
their standards.
He noted that many facilities still face challenges
in accessing affordable financing needed for development and improvement.
“Facilities struggling to access loans can come to
us. We work with the Kenya Development Corporation to help secure loans at
preferential rates to improve existing facilities and open new ones,” said
Tallam.
Gelian Hotel General Manager Fred Nyangwe welcomed
the recognition, saying it reflects the team’s commitment to quality service.
“We are proud of this recognition and look forward
to further classification and continued growth,” he said.
