Three more suspects linked to Chaiiwali café robbery arrested

The trio, as reported by the National Police Service (NPS), were nabbed after an operation in Mwiki, Githurai, Kiambu County.

NPS added that they attempted to flee, but the officers responded swiftly and arrested them. A search later conducted at a residence linked to the suspects in Kimbo led to the recovery of two firearms, each loaded with ammunition.

"Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to a recent armed robbery incident that was captured on CCTV footage, in which armed assailants robbed members of the public at a popular restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley before escaping on motorcycles," NPS wrote.

On the mentioned date, armed robbers wearing facemasks stormed the restaurant brandishing firearms after arriving on two motorbikes.

In just under 40 seconds, six iPhones, one Samsung phone, and a laptop were reported stolen.

Vincent Ochieng, one of the suspects linked to the robbery, was shot dead on July 13 at Joska in Machakos County after a fierce shootout with detectives.

According to preliminary reports, Ochieng refused to surrender and engaged the officers in a close-range gunfight. 

Sources say the first responding police tracked one of the stolen phones, which was still active in the Baba Dogo area before being switched off. 

The suspects will now remain in custody awaiting arraignment.
