The bodies of two boys aged 16 and  21  who drowned on Saturday evening while swimming at Sagana River in Ndia, Kirinyaga county, have been retrieved.

Villagers from Gakindu and Kinji villages spent the whole of Sunday and Monday searching for the bodies that were recovered on Monday night.

"The body of Josephat Njuguna aged 16, who hails from Gakindu village and is a form three  student at Gakindu Secondary School, was the first to be  retrieved and John Gachiani's body,  who hails from Kinji village, was retrieved later at around 6pm," Jecinta Muthoni said.

The bodies were taken to Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus.

Nancy  Wangari, the mother of John and Gladys Wangari, the mother of Josephat were overcome by grief.

Nancy Wangari and her husband Peter Githinji said they had three children and all have died.

"I had high hopes for John. He was my secondborn; my other two children have died, my daughter was raped, killed, and her body dumped in a quarry four years ago. My firstborn also died. This is hell," Wangari said.
