Authorities in Maara Constituency, Tharaka Nithi County, have intensified the crackdown on illicit alcohol following the recovery of 400 litres of chang'aa during an operation in Mathare Village, Mwimbi Ward.
Maara Deputy County Commissioner Unice Wambua condemned the growing trade in illicit brew, warning that security agencies would sustain operations until the illegal business is eliminated.
During the operation, officers discovered containers of chang'aa concealed under beds and in house ceilings, in what appeared to be attempts by suspected brewers to evade detection.
The security team recovered twenty 20-litre containers of illicit alcohol, although the suspected brewers escaped arrest.
Wambua cautioned those involved in the illegal brewing and sale of alcohol to abandon the trade, warning that authorities would intensify the crackdown.
She said the operations would continue until Mathare Village is free from illicit alcohol, reaffirming the government's commitment to combating the illegal trade.
