Tharaka Nithi: Residents decry poor roads, lack of water, electricity in Marimanti

Residents of Mbengini, Mugwi, and the surrounding areas of Marimanti in Tharaka Constituency have expressed frustration over the poor state of the roads and the lack of reliable water and electricity.
The residents have accused their elected leaders of neglect, saying none of their representatives has visited the area since the last elections to assess their challenges or listen to their concerns.
They also say accessing essential government services has become difficult and costly due to the poor road network. Residents seeking services at the sub-chief’s office, for example, are forced to spend considerable amounts on transport because of the long, poorly maintained routes they must travel.
According to the residents, the poor roads have made it difficult to access government offices and seek assistance.
Locals say they are often forced to endure their problems because they lack reliable and affordable means of transport to reach the relevant authorities.
The residents are now calling on their elected leaders and relevant government agencies to visit the area, improve the road network and ensure better access to essential services, particularly water and electricity.
They want the authorities to address the challenges urgently and fulfil their responsibility of ensuring that residents in the area are not left behind in development.
