A suspected drug trafficker has been apprehended with bhang worth Ksh.8.1 million after a dramatic pursuit along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), David Muraya, 35, was flagged down at a patrol point on Saturday when he defied orders and sped off, prompting a high-chase speed towards Kaptembwa area.

During the pursuit, detectives deflated the vehicle’s right front tyre, forcing the suspect to later abandon the vehicle in a vacant plot near Kaptembwa Police Station and attempted to flee. He was cornered and taken in custody.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 13 sacks of suspected cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 272 kilograms.

Muraya will remain in police custody pending arraignment in court on Monday, March 16, 2026.
