Suspected serial robber arrested as detectives recover stolen G3 rifle in Kisumu

In a statement on Wednesday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the operation involved detectives in Kisumu augmented by experts from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and the Operations Directorate at DCI headquarters.
The DCI said the arrest also led to the recovery of a motor vehicle believed to have been used as a getaway car and several items suspected to have been stolen during the robberies.
The suspect’s identity was withheld pending an identification parade.
Investigators said the recovered rifle is believed to be among the weapons stolen during the February 27, 2026 raid on Nyalenda Police Patrol Base, where several officers and a civilian were injured and two loaded G3 rifles were taken.
The suspect was linked to a robbery on March 17, 2026 at about 9.48pm in Arena Phase 4 Estate in Kisumu Central Sub-County, where the gang allegedly raided a business premises and stole a television, woofer, computers, phones and other items before fleeing in a waiting vehicle.
He was also linked to a robbery on March 9, 2026 at Duka Moja Shopping Centre in Kakamega South Sub-County, where the suspects allegedly stole cash, a laptop and several mobile phones before escaping.
Detectives further linked the group to another robbery in Kajulu, Kisumu East Sub-County, where the suspects allegedly fired a shot at a shop door to gain entry before stealing money and phones and fleeing on a motorcycle with a concealed number plate.
The DCI said the arrest led to the recovery of one firearm and a vehicle, KDH 812L, believed to have been used in the Arena Phase 4 robbery.
Investigations are ongoing to arrest other suspects and recover another missing firearm.
