The stage is set for the inaugural Nairobi Darts Masters, the first-ever high-level darts championship to be held in Kenya. The tournament, which has attracted 96 players, will take place on December 5th and 6th at Broadwalk Mall along Ojijo Road in Westlands. The launch also doubled as a celebration of Kenya’s growing prominence in regional and international darts competitions.

Speaking during the launch, Sirua Darts Group Director Daniel Karori hailed the remarkable growth of the sport both locally and across the region over the past three years, noting that the group now has over 500 registered players in Kenya.

The Nairobi Masters will feature competition across four categories — The Masters, The Ladies Showdown, The Junior U15 Category, and The University Challenge Cup. The Ladies Showdown will feature 48 participants battling for a Ksh 50,000 prize, while the Junior U15 Category will bring together 32 young players, with the winner set to take home Ksh 20,000 - a clear reflection of the investment in nurturing the next generation of talent.

“The game has really grown over the last three years, achieving great milestones. We have conquered Africa this year  - both locally and regionally,” Karori stated.

The tournament is expected to bring together some of the best darts players from Kenya and across the African region, linking local competition to global pathways within the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). The prestigious event will feature a grand prize pool of £10,000 (Sterling Pounds), underscoring Kenya’s rising status in the global darts arena.

Kenya’s steady progress in the sport is already evident on the international stage. David Munyua, who recently became the first Kenyan to qualify for the PDC World Championship, is set to compete in London from December 11th. Another pioneer, Peter Wachiuri, will represent Kenya at the ADC Global Championships beginning December 1st. Meanwhile, rising sensation Aryan Khalsa, fondly known as “The Protégé” at only 14 years old, impressed at the World Darts Federation (WDF) World Masters in Budapest after reaching the quarterfinals. He is now preparing for the International Darts School League (IDSL) Portsmouth Championships in the UK.

Munyua expressed excitement and optimism as he continues his preparations for the upcoming competition.

“We have never had so much money at stake. It motivates me to practise harder and get myself in the best shape for the tournament,” Munyua remarked.

Sirua Darts Group also confirmed plans to launch a University Darts Championship starting next year, with 48 players already registered. According to Karori, this move aims to institutionalize darts within the country’s higher learning institutions and sustain long-term growth and talent development.

“Our focus is on building structures that ensure Kenya remains a force in darts for years to come,” Karori added.
