United head coach Jeffers Odongo has blamed defensive lapses and poor
decision-making in attack for his side’s narrow 2-1 defeat to Talanta in their
latest National Super League (NSL) clash.
The loss
was a bitter setback for Soy, who opened the scoring and appeared on course for
a positive result before gifting Talanta a way back through avoidable mistakes.
Speaking
to Citizen Digital, Odongo expressed
frustration at his players’ inability to build on their early advantage.
He
insisted that Soy United controlled large portions of the game and deserved
maximum points, but moments of poor concentration at the back — coupled with
missed chances in front of goal — ultimately undid their efforts.
The
coach pointed to a worrying lack of focus among both defenders and forwards,
stressing that such lapses are costly in a league as competitive as the NSL.
Despite the disappointment, he remained upbeat and promised to correct the
issues in training ahead of their next assignment.
“We must
learn from this match. We had the upper hand after scoring first, but switching
off for a moment allowed Talanta back into the game. We are now focused on
correcting these mistakes so we can come back stronger,” Odongo said.
Soy
United’s season has produced mixed results. The team has played six matches and
collected eight points — a tally that keeps them within touching distance of
the leading pack. Importantly, they still have three games in hand, offering a
crucial chance to climb the standings if they can turn those fixtures into
wins.
With
tough matches ahead, Odongo is pushing for greater discipline and sharper execution
from his squad. Soy United sit 14th in the NSL table with eight points from six
outings.
