The Ndura Sports Complex in Kitale was a cauldron of excitement as Solidarity Boys of St Anthony’s Kitale and Sinyereri Ladies (Wiyeta Girls) were crowned champions in the men’s and women’s categories of the FKF Trans-Nzoia County Championships, respectively.
In the men’s final, Solidarity Boys edged out Active FC 1–0
in a tense, hard-fought encounter. Striker Geligory Wekesa netted the decisive
goal in the 10th minute with a composed finish that sent their fans into wild
celebrations. Despite dominating much of the second half, Active FC failed to
breach Solidarity’s resolute backline. The champions walked away with the
prestigious trophy and a KSh 300,000 cash prize.
The grand finals drew a vibrant crowd of fans and county
dignitaries, including Trans-Nzoia County Sports Executive Eluid Tormoi, County
Director of Sports Jane Wachwenge, and FKF Trans-Nzoia Branch Chairman Isaac
Munene Kuria. Their presence underscored the growing stature of grassroots
football in the region.
In the women’s showdown, Sinyereri Ladies (Wiyeta Girls)
produced a dazzling display, hammering Dolphine Queens (Kwanza Girls) 5–1 to
claim the FKF Trans-Nzoia Women’s League title.
Charity Muhevi struck twice, while Ever Passion Ayuma, Filia
Khayesi, and Loice Adeti added one apiece. Ruth Nyongesa pulled one back for
Dolphine Queens, courtesy of an assist from Shanley Nekesa.
Sinyereri Ladies took home the league trophy and a KSh
100,000 cash prize. This year’s women’s league featured 14 teams divided into
two pools, running from June to August, with the top two sides from each group
advancing to the semi-finals.
Despite the heavy defeat, Dolphine Queens head coach Ruth
Nyongesa lauded her team’s fighting spirit.
“The girls played their hearts out; luck just wasn’t on our
side today. We’ll correct our mistakes and come back stronger next season,” she
said.
FKF Trans-Nzoia Chairman Isaac Munene praised the
tournaments for their high level of discipline and talent, expressing optimism
that next season will attract more sponsors and visibility.
“We’re looking forward to stronger partnerships with brands
like Shabiki.com to elevate the league and draw scouts from higher-tier
competitions,” he noted.
The pulsating double-header not only crowned deserving
champions but also reaffirmed Trans-Nzoia’s growing reputation as a fertile
ground for Kenya’s next generation of football stars.
