Appearing under the Advocates category, Njeri, 35, has been recognized for her role in the national uproar against the 2025 Finance Bill by developing a digital platform in June, 2025, designed to collect public feedback on the Bill— an app that purportedly disrupted parliamentary email systems.
She announced the tool on X, leading to her arrest under accusations of violating Section 16 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, which criminalises unauthorised interference with computer systems, leading to her arrest and later release.
The courts ruled that the particulars presented by the prosecution failed to meet the legal threshold required to constitute a valid charge.
The web developer found herself at the centre of global attention as civil society groups argued that it reflected a growing crackdown on civic tech and online activism in Kenya.
TIME says that Njeri, is embracing her new role of advocating for change.
"She says authorities “want to ignore us like we are not part of the process as citizens,” adding, “We shouldn’t just sit back and watch.” TIME wrote.
Njeri shared her elation at appearing on the coveted list, dedicating it to those who supported her as she challenged the State.
"This recognition is not just mine but belongs to everyone who has walked this journey with me, challenged me, and inspired me to keep going," she wrote on X.
