Sofapaka claimed a pivotal win in a Kenyan Premier League match Monday dispatching Posta Rangers 2-0 at the Dandora Stadium in Nairobi.
Daniel Nganga and Joseph Kuloba were on target to secure the
win.
Elsewhere in Mombasa, in a National Super League match, Mombasa
United extended their fine run with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Darajani Gogo
FC at Mbaraki Stadium.
Eric Adem scored for visitors Gogo while an own goal and
Neville Amwai strike confirmed the win for Mombasa.
Darajani Gogo took an early lead in the first minute when
Eric Adem pounced on a rebound spilled by United goalkeeper Richard Ebenyo to
slot home the opener.
After a slow start, the hosts gradually settled into the
match, creating several chances through Abdalla Mdeka and Abdulrahman Abdalla,
but both efforts narrowly missed the target.
Five minutes before halftime, Joel Kihara and Abdulrahman
Abdalla were again denied by Gogo’s impressive goalkeeper Dickens Okoth,
keeping the visitors ahead.
However, Darajani Gogo’s momentum took a hit in first-half
stoppage time when winger Emmanuel Ochieng was shown a second yellow card for
time-wasting, reducing them to 10 men.
At the break, Mombasa United made triple substitutions —
introducing Nehemia Onchiri, Answar Shamuni, and James Onyango — to boost their
attacking options.
The changes quickly paid off. In the 57th minute, Shamuni’s
powerful corner was deflected into the net by a Gogo defender, handing United a
deserved equalizer.
The hosts completed their comeback in the 77th minute, when
Neville Amwai latched onto a clever through pass from Onchiri and calmly
slotted the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2–1.
United, however, finished the game with 10 men after
defender Msami Hakimu was sent off in the 85th minute for obstructing the
opposing goalkeeper from taking a quick restart.
Mombasa United head coach Gilbert Selebwa praised his side’s
resilience.
“We conceded a silly goal in the first minute, but I’m proud
of how the boys fought back to win. We’ve maintained a 100% home record, and if
we keep this momentum, we can achieve our goals.”
Darajani Gogo coach Mark Andrea Ongwae was less pleased,
blaming the officiating for disrupting his team’s rhythm.
“Our game plan worked well in the first half, but the
referee’s decision to show a red card to our player when he was going to take a
corner changed everything. The constant yellow cards unsettled our formation
and cost us the match.”
With the victory, Mombasa United move up to second place in
the NSL standings on 16 points, level with leaders Migori Youth, while Darajani
Gogo sit 11th with seven points.
