The victims, identified as Joseph Kihiti, 90, and his wife Bethrosa Wanjiku, 63, were discovered dead under disturbing circumstances.
According to local authorities, Kihiti’s body was found lying on a bed, while Wanjiku’s was discovered in the living room.
Area Chief Stephen Nderitu said alarm was raised when the couple failed to attend church — a routine they rarely missed.
“Church members and residents visited the home and found the front door locked. At the back, we were greeted by a pool of blood and an open door,” he recounted.
Confirming the incident, Rongai Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer Donata Atieno said preliminary findings indicate that the couple was subjected to extreme violence.
Investigators believe the murders may have taken place on Friday evening, though the bodies were only discovered two days later.
The couple, who lived alone on their farm, reportedly had no known disputes or enemies. Authorities also confirmed that nothing appeared to have been stolen from the house, deepening the mystery surrounding the attack.
Speaking in anguish, the couple’s son, John Njogu, expressed disbelief over the killing.
“Why would anyone think of taking my father’s life at such an age?” he asked, struggling to contain his grief.
