When Lady Dentaa Amoateng moved from Ghana to the UK at just five years old, she entered a world that made her question who she was. She faced racism so severe that, as a young girl, she once wished she could be white.

But her mother’s message that she was enough became her anchor.

Years later, that same little girl would receive an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) on the Queen’s 90th birthday, honoured for her work in bridging opportunities between Africans and the UK.

Today, Lady Dentaa is an entrepreneur, TV personality, and founder of the GUBA Awards — a global platform that recognises and connects African excellence across the diaspora. The awards, now in their 16th year, will take place in Barbados this November, focusing on strengthening trade, culture, and collaboration between Africa and the Caribbean.

In an exclusive interview on She Means Business, Lady Dentaa opened up about her early struggles with identity, the turning point that ignited her advocacy, and her mission to help Africans — especially women — start businesses and thrive globally.
