On-form Gor Mahia winger Shariff Musa has praised head coach Charles Akonnor for restoring his confidence after the midfielder delivered a brilliant performance in Gor Mahia’s 3-1 win over Ulinzi Stars in the Kenya Premier League.

Musa was at the heart of the victory on Sunday, scoring once and providing two assists as Gor Mahia F.C. extended its lead at the top of the table to 10 points. The creative midfielder said the performance was a reward for the faith shown in him by Akonnor since the Ghanaian tactician took charge.

“Scoring a goal and gaining two assists, of course, was a fantastic thing for me,” Musa said after the match.

“I think the best coaches get the best out of their players, and so I would say coach Akonnor has given me the confidence to enable me to pick my form, and he is a good coach.”

The midfielder also acknowledged the pressure that comes with playing for Gor Mahia, noting that the team’s winning culture demands a strong mentality from every player.

“Working under pressure for a team like Gor Mahia and taking it positively is important,” he added.

Musa has been one of Gor Mahia’s standout performers during the 2025/26 league campaign, emerging as one of the most creative players in the competition. As of March 2026, the midfielder has featured in 21 matches, scoring four goals and registering four assists.

His influence has played a significant role in Gor Mahia’s title charge, with the club currently enjoying a comfortable lead at the summit of the table.

Despite the strong position, Musa insists the team remains focused on taking the season one match at a time.

“For the league title, I think we will be taking a game at a time,” he said.

The midfielder also credited Gor Mahia supporters for motivating the players to keep winning.

“The fans keep pushing us to win our games since they are used to winning, and it is a winning expectation at Gor Mahia,” he said.

Musa’s consistent performances earlier in the season also saw him named the League Player of the Month for October 2025, highlighting his growing influence within the team.

With Gor Mahia chasing a 22nd crown, the midfielder’s creativity could prove decisive in the final stretch of the campaign.
