Shabana FC head coach Peter Okidi has dropped the gauntlet declaring that they are the FKF Premier League to challenge and win and not merely make up the numbers.

Okidi’s remarks come in the wake of the Glamour Boys 1–0 win over Bandari at Mbaraki Grounds to extend their unbeaten run to two games.

“First of all, I thank God,” Okidi said. “I’m grateful for the energy from the boys. Everything we practiced came to life, and we finished the match without injuries, giving us more positive momentum going into other matches.”

Okidi stressed that Shabana are chasing more than early-season momentum, ready to do everything in their hands to conquer the 2025/2026 league title.

“When we started the league, I said and we agreed with my team that we are here to win it, not just to take part,” he explained. “We’ll stay humble before God and keep working even harder for more results.”

Shabana executed a disciplined game plan to cope with Mombasa’s scorching afternoon heat. The breakthrough arrived in the 63rd minute when Brian Michira, the league’s current top scorer with three goals, volleyed home a precise far-post cross from substitute Bronson Nsubuga.

The victory lifted Shabana to the top of the table on goal difference, level on six points with a resurgent Posta Rangers, while Ulinzi Stars sit third. Their next test comes quickly, a heavyweight clash against Tusker FC on Sunday, October 5, at 4 p.m., at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Still, there is a slight cloud over the triumph. Michira, who scored twice in the opening-day win over APS Bomet, limped off with an injury that could test Shabana’s attacking depth in the coming weeks.

Shabana’s rapid rise is no fluke. Since earning promotion in 2023, the Kisii-based side has blended smart signings with modern management and the passionate support of its famously organized fan base.
