President William Ruto has urged young people to be vigilant when politicians seek their votes in the upcoming elections. He made the remarks in Kakamega County, where hundreds of youth received funding to start businesses under the Nyota programme.

President William Ruto launched the Nyota project fund for youth at Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County on Friday. The fund, worth five billion shillings, aims to empower young people to start and grow their businesses. The president emphasized the importance of such initiatives.

“Itafikia vijana wote programme inafuata itakuwa wale wa nafasi ya ujuzi kujifunza kazi ya biashara na kaunti na national government,” said William Ruto, president.

The head of state urged young people to be wise, ask tough questions, and scrutinize every leader's promises before making electoral decisions.

“For those political class who are pushing the young people of Kenya wafanye maandamano muulize ukipata uongozi mimi napata nini,” said William Ruto, president.

Seventy young entrepreneurs in each of the 1,450 wards will benefit from a 50,000 shillings grant.

“Kuna watu watasema Ksh.25,000 haifanyi chochote ukitumia akili Ksh.50,000 can grow your business,” said William Ruto, president.

“The Nyota programme is one of the solutions to address the complex challenges of youth employment,” said Qimiao Fan, country director World Bank Kenya.

President Ruto noted that the Nyota fund will complement existing youth loan initiatives such as the Hustler Fund, the Women’s Fund, and the Youth Fund. He asked the youth to use the money strictly for business purposes.
