President of the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC), Reuben Ndolo, has recaptured the Commonwealth Boxing Council top seat following elections held in the United Kingdom.

Ndolo secured 34 of the 56 votes cast, defeating incumbent Fredrick Stirrup of Canada and Frank Hadley of Australia to recapture the presidency of the council he held between 2000 and 2002.

In addition to his victory, Ndolo also earned the backing of seven out of twelve directors, who will serve alongside him until 2027.

“Our assurance to sponsors is that we’ll maintain integrity in the sport by ensuring clean bouts and professionally organized events that benefit all stakeholders,” said Ndolo after his win.

“Most importantly, we aim to empower young boxers. Promoters from Britain are already here to sign contracts that will open up opportunities for our youth.”

Among Ndolo’s top priorities for the new term is the development of young boxing talent. European promoters are already collaborating on several projects, with the first set to begin in Mombasa.

Greg Cox of Kalakoda Promotions announced plans to launch a new boxing series dubbed Young Lions, designed to give emerging fighters regular opportunities to compete.

“We are working with the commission to introduce Young Lions, which will stage 48 shows a year, every Saturday except during Christmas and New Year.

The series will help transitional fighters gain professional experience by allowing them to fight four or five times within six to seven months,” he said.

Ndolo’s re-election comes just 16 days before the highly anticipated Nightmare in Nairobi event on November 21, which will feature top bouts including Fatuma Zarika vs Halima Vunjabei of Tanzania, Rayton Okwiri vs Muhammad Sebyala of Uganda, and Jamie Devine of the UK vs Christopher Osicho.
