Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV's Shajara, the Kakamega-based musician stated that he got the disturbing news that was too unreal to believe.
Musindi's song has been a trademark in Raila’s rally campaigns as he travelled across the country to sell his 2022 bid for the presidency.
He rose to fame after ‘leo ni leo’ that directly translates to (today is today), and collaborated with late Raila to produce a remix of that song.
"In Bukungu, 2022, I didn't think that he knew my songs. I was just shocked when I heard him sing my song," Musindi recalled.
The musician recollected the freedom that Raila fought for, narrowing down to how the fruits allowed music artists to record songs without too much restriction.
"Raila had made us 'artists' have hope for a better tomorrow," he stated.
Musindi is the leader of the Lisanga Generation Band, which started in 1992, where he worked with some of the famous musicians of that time, like John Nzenze, Mzee Jacob Luseno, among others, who have already passed on.
He described the former PM as a man who catapulted his career and that he will forever remain indebted to him.
Late Raila, fondly known as 'Baba' mostly in Kenya, and a champion of democracy in Africa, died at 80.
