As the curtains fall on the sixth
edition of the Rashid Abdallah Cup the organizers have now hinted of expanding the
tournament to other parts of the Coast Region in the near future.
Speaking after the finals where
Lazium Football Club clinched their maiden title, founder and journalist Rashid
Abdallah confirmed that the edition will include teams from Kilifi County.
This development comes after
this year’s edition featured teams from Mombasa like Bandari Youth who finished
as runners up as Azzam lost to Lazium in the pulsating final held at Kwale
Stadium.
"We said during our draw
that we will consider Kilifi and even the whole of the Coast but with time and
approval of the committee and also we have to consider the logistical
issues," said Rashid
“One thing that has kept our
sponsors intact with us is that we let them hand what they have chipped in
direct to the targeted players to show our accountability and
transparency." He added.
Shabiki.com chief operating
officer Abdi Waqo noted that they will continue to partner with like-minded
people who uplift the society and even grow raw and local talents all over the
country.
"What is keeping us
close to such tournaments is how the fans are into their own players and
tournaments, so we will continue to help grow young people because that is what
Shabiki.com is all about".
Lazium captain Omar Kanangulu
who’s side lost two previous finals to Denmark Maganyakulo was all smiles,
termed their latest conquest as a major boost in their bid to climb higher on
the local football echelons.
The tournament which started
as a location tourney has morphed into a game changer in growing and scouting talents
with some of the players currently plying their trade in the Kenyan premier
league.
