The league leaders wasted little time stamping their authority on the match. Just nine minutes in, Gor Mahia were awarded a penalty after Musa Shariff was brought down inside the box. Midfielder Enoch Morrison calmly stepped up and converted to hand K’Ogalo an early advantage.
Ulinzi attempted to steady themselves after the setback, but Gor Mahia remained the more threatening side.
The first half, however, ended with an injury scare for the visitors when defender Sylvester Owino was forced off and replaced by Mike Kibwage midway through the opening period.
Despite the disruption, Gor Mahia maintained their composure and carried their 1–0 lead into halftime.
The second half followed a similar script with Gor Mahia controlling possession and creating opportunities. Head coach Charles Akonnor made tactical changes that proved decisive. Cameroonian Patrick Essombe replaced Ebenezer Assifuah in the 65th minute and immediately made his presence felt.
Moments after coming on, Essombe latched onto a well-weighted pass from the lively Musa Shariff inside the box and finished confidently to double Gor Mahia’s advantage.
Essombe’s goal further exposed Ulinzi’s defensive vulnerabilities and shifted the momentum firmly in favor of the visitors.
Shariff then crowned his impressive performance with a goal of his own. Left unmarked inside the penalty area, the attacker unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner to make it 3–0 and effectively put the game beyond the Soldiers.
Akonnor later made further substitutions on his side, introducing Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw, Ben Stanley Omondi and Fidel Origa as Gor Mahia comfortably managed the closing stages of the match.
Ulinzi, however, managed a late consolation when Stephen Odhiambo pulled one back for the Soldiers, but the damage had already been done as the match ended 3–1 in favor of the league leaders.
The result lifts Gor Mahia to 53 points, extending their lead at the top to ten points over AFC Leopards, while Ulinzi Stars remain rooted in 17th place with just 19 points.
Elsewhere in the league, Kairobangi Sharks boosted their survival hopes with a 2–1 victory over Shabana FC courtesy of goals from Razel Omondi and a last minute one by Mark Vivian Kesa.
Tusker FC on the other hand continued their resurgence under coach Julien Mette with a 2–0 win against Kakamega Homeboyz, while KCB FC were held to a draw by Murang'a Seal.
