With political temperatures gradually rising ahead of the 2027 General Election, the Government is intensifying efforts to project an agenda centred on service delivery, unity and grassroots development.
Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr Raymond Omollo used a church service at Mutumbu Seventh-day Adventist Church in Siaya County on Saturday to rally citizens behind national development while cautioning leaders against divisive politics that could derail the country's progress.
In remarks likely to attract political attention across the region, Dr Omollo emphasised that leadership should be measured by integrity, service and the ability to improve the lives of ordinary Kenyans rather than political confrontation.
"We should judge our leaders based on development delivered to citizens," noted Dr Omollo.
The PS highlighted the Government's ongoing administrative reforms, revealing that more than 1,800 administrative units, including 74 sub-counties, have been operationalised to bring public services closer to wananchi.
He noted that Siaya has already benefited through the creation of new administrative units in Bondo and Alego Usonga, a move expected to improve security coordination and access to key government services.
He also urged communities to support the recruitment of competent chiefs and assistant chiefs, saying National Government Administrative Officers remain critical in facilitating national identity card issuance, voter registration and grassroots development programmes.
Beyond politics, Dr Omollo outlined the Government's broader development agenda, pointing to investments in education, infrastructure, electricity connectivity and the newly operational Sovereign Wealth Fund framework as key pillars expected to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities across the country.
"The government is further investing in infrastructure and education to better the lives of our people," Omollo added.
His message comes at a time when political leaders are increasingly positioning themselves for future contests, with observers closely watching every public appearance by senior government officials. By choosing a message of unity over political rivalry, the Government appears keen to shift public discourse from early campaign politics to development and service delivery.
The church service was also attended by Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda and Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, underscoring the significance of the event in Siaya's evolving political landscape.
