President Sheikh champions sports as language of peace and unity in Somalia

Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has underscored the vital role of sports in strengthening peace, unity and national cohesion as Somalia approaches its general elections.
Speaking at the Mogadishu Stadium during the grand finale of the Districts Cup, the President said sports have become “a language of peace and a way for our people, especially the youth, to express hope, pride and shared identity.”
The Head of State hailed the tournament as a “celebration of Somalia’s recovery and resilience,” adding that the thousands of citizens who gathered peacefully at the stadium reflected the nation’s determination to move forward together.
“Our progress is visible,” he declared. “Where there was fear, there is now joy. Where there was division, there is now unity. Somalia’s strength lies in its people.”
Hawlwadaag defeated Warshiikh 2-1 to win this two-week tournament, which attracted 22 teams.
The Head of State added: "I want to tell you all of you, come and vote one man one vote for the next elections for Banadir region, it’s your rights ".
More than 60,000 jubilant fans filled Mogadishu Stadium to grace the finale, transforming the venue into a sea of flags, chants, and national pride. Also in attendance was Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Banadir Region, Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), stood as a powerful symbol of stability and normalcy in a city once scarred by conflict.
Once occupied and misused by terrorist groups, the stadium has now been fully reclaimed by the people. Its grounds, once associated with violence, have been reborn as a stage for unity and hope a testament to Somalia’s unbreakable spirit.
Mogadishu Police Commissioner, Mo'allim Mahdi who was also presented, assured citizens that the government remains steadfast in guaranteeing peace and security in the region.
He emphasized that the country’s law enforcement agencies are on high alert to ensure stability as the nation heads toward elections.
The peaceful spectacle at Mogadishu Stadium was a living testament that the Somali people, united in purpose and spirit, are determined to write a new chapter defined by peace, pride and progress
