President William Ruto on Monday handed over keys to new homeowners at the newly completed Boma Yangu Elburgon Estate, marking another milestone in the government’s Affordable Housing Program.

The estate, located in Elburgon, Molo Constituency, comprises 220 modern housing units built across nine G+4 apartment blocks, designed to accommodate approximately 1,500 residents.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, James Munga, a beneficiary who acquired a two-bedroom unit, expressed gratitude to the government for delivering on its promise to provide decent and affordable homes.

“At first, I was hesitant to apply, but when I saw the project taking shape, I didn’t waste time. Today, I am a proud homeowner through Boma Yangu,” said Munga.

He commended President Ruto for prioritizing affordable housing and urged political leaders to support rather than politicize the program.

His sentiments were echoed by Martha Maina, a public health assistant and owner of a studio unit, who said the rent-to-own model was the key motivator behind her decision to join the program.

“This initiative allows young Kenyans like me to own homes early in life. It’s practical, affordable, and life-changing,” she said.

The Boma Yangu Elburgon Estate features essential amenities including ample parking, garbage collection points, a boundary wall, underground water storage, green spaces, paved driveways and walkways, street lighting, and a borehole to ensure reliable water supply.

Construction of the project began in September 2023 through a partnership with Top Choice Surveillance Limited and took about two years to complete.

During the construction phase, over 1,000 local residents benefited from direct and indirect employment opportunities, including youth and women from Elburgon town. Local Jua Kali artisans were also contracted to fabricate steel doors, windows, and railings, linking small and medium enterprises with the construction sector.

Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga said the project comprises 60 studio units, 20 one-bedroom units, 120 two-bedroom units, and 20 three-bedroom units, forming a sustainable and self-reliant community where residents can “live, work, and play.”

The Elburgon Estate is the third completed project under the Boma Yangu initiative, advancing the government’s agenda to deliver affordable, dignified housing for Kenyans across the country.
