Porro Ward Member of County Assembly Patrick Lerte has died while undergoing treatment at the Samburu County Referral Hospital.
Lerte’s death was confirmed by the Samburu County Assembly Clerk, Fred Lenapeer, who said the legislator passed away on the morning of Sunday, December 28.
Preliminary reports indicate that Lerte had been unwell for
several days and was receiving treatment before he succumbed, although
Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda mourned the deceased, describing his death as a
loss to the county.
Taking to her Facebook account, Lesuuda wrote, “My
heartfelt condolences go to his family, colleagues in the assembly, the people
of Porro Ward, and entire Samburu County during this moment of mourning.”
Lerte was first elected in 2022 on an Amani National
Congress (ANC) ticket. The party later merged with President William Ruto’s
United Democratic Alliance earlier this year.
Until his death, he served as the Chairperson of the Samburu County Assembly Committee on Lands and Physical Planning.
