Police officer killed in bow and arrow attack near State House

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the incident occurred around 8:10 a.m. on Dennis Pritt Road, near State House Gate D, when a 56-year-old man armed with a bow and arrows attacked officers stationed there.
According to police, despite being ordered to surrender, the suspect advanced towards the officers and shot Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka in the ribs with an arrow.
The statement notes that officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) who were on duty quickly apprehended and arrested the attacker.
Constable Mattanka was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he died from his injuries while receiving treatment.
His body has been transferred to the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
In a statement issued by NPS spokesperson Muchiri Njaga, the Service condemned the attack, describing it as a heinous act, and commended the officers on the ground for their quick response, which prevented further casualties.
“The National Police Service condemns this heinous act and commends the officers for their swift response, which prevented further harm,” the statement read in part.
Njaga added that investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack.
