Detectives from Igembe South, Igembe North, and Mutuati sub-counties have arrested a National Police Reserve (NPR) officer linked to a series of robberies in the Kirindine area, Igembe South, Meru County.

The suspect was arrested following an operation conducted in Kina, Kiutine, and Kina-Duba villages.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the suspect is part of a larger criminal gang implicated in a robbery with violence that occurred on December 19, 2025, at Kirindini Shopping Centre.

"Upon questioning, he revealed the location where he had buried an AK-47 rifle, a weapon that was reportedly used in the robbery incident," DCI said in a statement.

Detectives also recovered a magazine containing two rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition. In addition, an official government-issued G3 rifle with one magazine that had been assigned to the NPR officer was confiscated.

The suspect is currently in custody awaiting arraignment, as officers intensify the manhunt for his accomplices who are still at large.
