Speaking during a county security briefing at the County Police Headquarters in Kerugoya on Friday, Kirinyaga County Police Commander Nelson Taliti said officers from all security agencies, including the regular police, Administration Police, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), will conduct round-the-clock patrols throughout the county.
Taliti noted that the county’s security team has already recorded significant success in combating crime. In recent weeks, officers have arrested suspects linked to several robberies, including the theft of a lorry transporting Colgate products worth KSh 5.4 million. Five suspects were apprehended and arraigned in court in connection with the incident.
In a separate case, police recovered a stolen lorry belonging to Kavagara Flour Milling Company and arrested five suspects who have since been charged.
The police commander added that in Kutus, officers recovered stolen motorcycles and electronic devices such as laptops, which had been tied to a series of burglaries mainly targeting university students. He commended residents for their cooperation, saying public information has been instrumental in solving many crimes.
As part of the festive season operation, police have intensified road safety checks, including random alcohol tests to curb drunk driving.
Taliti also announced a sustained crackdown on illicit brews, warning that such products pose serious health risks to consumers. He thanked local administrators—including chiefs, assistant chiefs, and village elders—for their continued support in providing crucial intelligence that has aided ongoing operations.
