More than 70 families have been displaced and forced to spend the night in the cold after heavy rainfall triggered flash floods in Kaksingri Central Location, Suba Central Sub-County, Homa Bay County.

At least 20 houses were destroyed during the downpour that pounded the area last night.

According to Kaksingri Central Location Chief Daniel Magadi, the rain started at around 9:00 pm, before turning into a heavy downpour.

Chief Magadi added that floodwaters later swept through several homesteads, submerging houses up to half their wall height, leaving many residents with nowhere to sleep.

The floods also destroyed shops, household furniture, utensils, and fishing beaches, causing massive losses estimated at over six million shillings.

The administrator has appealed to the Homa Bay County Disaster Management Team and emergency response units to urgently intervene and assist the affected families.

He says the victims are in dire need of food, temporary shelter, bedding, and other essential supplies as they struggle to cope with the aftermath of the disaster.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant as the heavy rains continue in most parts of the county.
