Over 200 suspects who were arrested during Thursday's June 25 Gen Z anniversary protests have been released on a cash bail of KSh1,000 each after being arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts.

The accused were presented before the court on Friday and charged with obstructing vehicles and disrupting the free flow of traffic during the demonstrations.

They denied the charges and were each released on a KSh1,000 cash bail pending the hearing and determination of their cases.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who was accompanied by Senior Counsel James Orengo and Advocate Babu Owino, paid the cash bail for the accused, facilitating their release from custody.

The suspects were among hundreds arrested during the nationwide protests held to mark the anniversary of the June 25, 2025 demonstrations. The protests, largely led by Gen Z activists, called for greater government accountability and reforms.

The accused are expected to appear before the court on dates to be communicated as the criminal proceedings continue.
