Opposition leaders have demanded that the IEBC publish the register of new voters amid claims that non-Kenyans may have been registered ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at a church service in Kiambu County, Democratic Action Party leader Eugene Wamalwa and Democracy for the Citizens Party Secretary-General John Methu also accused the Office of the Registrar of Persons of selectively issuing national identity cards.
Meanwhile, United Green Movement leader David Maraga and People’s Renaissance Movement Party leader Caleb Amisi sustained calls for a united opposition to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.
"Mwezi wa kumi na moja tunaenda the final mass voter registration. Twataka tujue by now before we do the next mass voter registration. Ile register ya already registered voters, iwe availed to all of us, waweke mambo wazi," said Wamalwa.
Wamalwa and Methu say publishing the voters’ register would either restore confidence in the IEBC or expose alleged irregularities.
Speaking at the enthronement of Archbishop J.J. Gitahi in Kiambu County, Jubilee Deputy Leader Fred Matiang’i also faulted President Ruto over his use of derogatory language against political opponents.
"Across Uganda, upande wa Sebei, there's serious recruitment of foreigners wanapewa vitambulisho wanaandikishwa kura waje wapige kura huku kenya. Duale Waziri wetu amesema yeye anapanga na wenzake Somalia, kuingiza watu wa somalia," Wamalwa added.
"IEBC have no dog in that fight. We want to be very fair arbitors. The question we are asking and I will be writing to the IEBC tomorrow on behalf of our Party, is how many more voters have been registered since the last mass voter registration was stopped. Ndio tujue ni watu ngapi wameandikishwa, kutoka sehemu gani," Methu said.
The leaders later took their demands to Murang’a County, accusing the Office of the Registrar of Persons of deliberately delaying the printing and distribution of national identity cards in areas perceived to support the opposition. They allege the delays are politically motivated and demand accountability.
"Tutauliza registrar of persons, ni watu ngapi wamepatiwa vitambulisho, kutoka nupande gani wa Kenya. Ndio tujue ni wangapi wamepatiwa kutoka hapa Rift Valley, ndio tujue ni wangapi wamepewa hapa, sababu huyu gavana ameniambia, mtoto yake amefikisha miake 18 na amekaa miezi 10 bila kupatiwa kitambulisho," said Methu.
In Nakuru, United Green Movement leader and retired Chief Justice David Maraga urged opposition parties to unite, saying this is their best chance of unseating President William Ruto in 2027 and implementing their vision for Kenya. His call was echoed by People’s Renaissance leader Caleb Amisi, who spent Sunday engaging residents in Nairobi.
Ups..Maraga..Ruto is saying we have no agenda. Let him enjoy. We know what we want to do. One agenda I know we don’t have is how to steal. That one we don’t have
