One of 2 people shot dead by police during Ishiara hospital protests buried

One of the two people who were
shot dead during protests in Ishiara, Mbeere North Constituency in Embu County,
has been laid to rest.
The family of Morris Mugo is
demanding justice, including compensation for the 31-year-old who they describe
as a social and hardworking young man killed by a police bullet while agitating
for better healthcare.
A sombre mood engulfed St.
Augustine Teachers’ College Church during the burial of Mugo, who was shot dead
last week during protests over health services at Ishiara Level 4 Hospital.
His family described the deceased
as a breadwinner and a hardworking man who championed justice and good
leadership
Laulenzia Muthoni, the deceased’s
aunt, said: “We hold tightly to the beautiful memories you brought to us, the
smiles, the conversations, the simple moments that we will miss every day. You
are not just a son but a source of pride hope and unconditional love.”
Peterson
Njeru, Mugo’s brother, added: “The brotherhood and what happened outside
Ishiara Level 4 Hospital will forever remain a testimony.”
Public Service Cabinet Secretary
Geoffrey Ruku led a government delegation in condemning the killing, calling on
the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to conduct thorough
investigations.
Political leaders in Embu also
condemned the incident, urging leaders to stop politicizing the protests that
led to the death of two demonstrators.
“Tutahakikisha
ya kwamba yule ambaye alifanya ile kitendo anaadhibiwa kwa wajibu wa sheria ya
nchi yetu ya Kenya,” said CS Ruku.
Mbeere North MP Leo Wamuthende stated:
“Mambo ya hawa polisi tumepeleka kwa IPOA na nanuia tukiwa na CS, Governor, Senator
na viongozi wengine sisi tutafuatilia hatua kwa mwacheda.”
Leaders
and mourners are also calling for improved services at Ishiara hospital to
ensure residents continue to receive quality healthcare.
