One suspect has been arrested and over 1,000 litres of a lethal illicit drink known as Kangara seized following a dramatic midnight operation in Korogocho’s Grogon B area.
The joint
security operation, carried out in the early hours of October 10, 2025, by the
National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in
collaboration with the National Police Service, targeted a sprawling illicit
distillery that has been supplying toxic brews to local communities.
During the
raid, enforcement teams destroyed the seized brews and secured exhibits of Kangara and Chang’aa for
prosecution. The arrested suspect is expected to be arraigned at the Makadara
Law Courts.
The operation
forms part of a nationwide Rapid Results Initiative
spearheaded by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, aimed at
dismantling the networks behind the production and sale of illicit alcohol
across the country.
In a firm
warning to those engaged in the illegal trade, NACADA Chief Executive Officer
Anthony Omerikwa declared:
“To the
merchants of death peddling this poison, your time is up. This operation is not
an isolated event — it is a sustained, nationwide crackdown. We are coming for
the distilleries, the distribution networks, and the sellers. We will hunt you
down, and the full force of the law will land on you. Your choice is simple:
abandon this trade now or face the consequences in court.”
