Fast-rising striker Ryan Ogam is embracing the “positive pressure” that comes with representing Kenya’s Harambee Stars ahead of the upcoming international friendlies: two international friendlies in Turkey, against Equatorial Guinea on Friday, 14 November, at the Emir Complex, and Senegal on Tuesday, 18 November, at the Mardan Stadium.

Ogam, who currently plays for Wolfsberger AC in the Austrian Bundesliga, made the move to Austria from Tusker FC in early September, capping off an impressive spell in the FKF Premier League where he scored 15 goals in just 17 matches, quickly establishing himself as one of Kenya’s most prolific forwards with 7 goals in 10 caps.

"Of course you feel some pressure whenever you are in the limelight; everyone is looking up to you and expecting a strong performance. But I see it as positive pressure, because it shows people believe in what you can do on the field.

"For me, I want to give more than 100 percent, as this is a chance to improve and showcase my best. I’m looking forward to the upcoming games," said Ogam.

The Harambee Stars squad reported to camp on Sunday, 9 November, and departed today for Turkey. Ogam sees the friendlies as a crucial opportunity for the team to fine-tune their preparations ahead of more competitive fixtures.

"The mood in camp is excellent. The squad feels a bit different with the addition of new players, but in football, we often say there are no new players.

"I believe we have a solid team. This is our first training session, and I’m optimistic about the camp and the upcoming matches," Ogam added.

Looking ahead, the striker is focused on victory. "The objective is to win both matches. It won’t be easy, but if we play as a unit and give that extra effort, we can achieve it.

These friendlies are a great chance to test ourselves against quality opponents and to show what we’re capable of," he said.

Ogam scored key goals for Kenya at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), including decisive performances against Morocco and Zambia.

His displays earned him Man-of-the-Match honors and comparisons to celebrated striker Michael Olunga, who will miss the two upcoming matches.
