Kakamega Homeboyz head coach
Patrick Odhiambo has opened up on their intent to go for the KPL title this
season.
Odhiambo, who is serving his
second stint with the yellow and green squad, is confident of clinching their
unprecedented top-tier league title after agonizingly missing by a whisker in
recent seasons.
“It's true, and it is open that
we are aiming for the league title; that is what we want to target, and I have
that confidence that we have what it takes to do so. However, I understand that
there will be stiff competition since those teams around us are also having the
same aim to win it.
“Homeboyz will not sit back and
let others run away with the title because we are not participants but
competitors,” said Odhiambo.
The former Gor Mahia assistant
coach has now targeted bolstering his squad in the January window to achieve
their goal.
But he is aware of the ‘stiff
competition’ posed by rival teams around them.
“Firstly, we have to prepare
very well for this, even if we are among the top teams. I am looking at
bolstering the squad in the January transfer window, and there are a few
departments I have marked to strengthen.
We want the team to be stronger
everywhere and be in the right shape to go full gas come the new year with only
one target, to finish top of the league,” Odhiambo said.
Homeboyz are second on the
18-team standings with 20 points, one behind leaders and defending champions
Kenya Police FC.
Homeboyz have so far managed
five wins and draws with only two losses in their last 12 matches played.
They will be facing hosts Gor
Mahia tomorrow at MISC Kasarani Stadium in the KPL fixture, which promises to
be a showdown with all teams eyeing the top.
