Nairobi City Thunder small forward Albert
Odera has completed a one-year
move to Rwandan side Tigers BBC ahead of the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL) Nile Conference playoffs,
set to be staged at the BK Arena in Kigali,
Rwanda.
Odera leaves City Thunder as one of the most influential players in the club’s recent history having played a central role in helping Brad Ibs' side qualify for back-to-back BAL editions, using his experience, work rate, and leadership to drive the team through demanding regional qualifiers.
His defensive presence and ability to contribute offensively in
high-pressure games were widely regarded as key factors in Thunder’s rise on
the continental scene.
The transfer comes at a sensitive time for Nairobi City Thunder, who are deep into preparations for the upcoming season.
Losing Odera leaves a clear void on the wing, but the club has responded by
ramping up training and focusing on tactical reorganization.
Club insiders remain confident that Thunder’s strong core and structured playing philosophy will allow them to remain competitive, even without Odera.
At the same time, his move is seen as a testament to the club’s growing
status as a platform capable of producing players ready for elite continental
basketball.
For Tigers BBC, the signing represents a major boost as they look to strengthen their roster ahead of the Nile Conference playoffs.
Odera’s BAL experience and familiarity with high-stakes qualification games
are expected to add immediate value to the Rwandan outfit.
As the countdown to the Nile Conference playoffs continues, Odera now turns his focus to making an impact in Kigali, while Nairobi City Thunder begin a new chapter, determined to build on the foundations laid during their historic BAL qualification runs.
