Ulinzi Starlets head coach Collins Ochieng has made his
intentions clear that he wants the FKF Women’s Premier League (FKF-WPL) title,
and he wants it this season.
Ochieng, who took charge in December 2024 following the
departure of Stephen Ocholla, is already seeing results. The tactician guided
the soldiers to a solid 2-0 victory over Kibera Soccer Women on Sunday at the
Ulinzi Sports Complex, a win that lifted the Starlets to second place on the
table with 26 points.
Defending champions Kenya Police Bullets remain top with 28
points, but the gap is narrow and the pressure mounting.
Four-time champions Vihiga Queens sit third on 25 points,
with Trinity Starlets and Zetech Sparks following in fourth and fifth positions
with 24 and 21 points respectively.
Speaking to Citizen Digital after the weekend win, Ochieng
said consistency will be key if Ulinzi are to turn their title ambition into
reality.
“Defeating Kibera wasn’t an easy task but we thank God for
enabling us harvest the maximum points. To us winning each game is our main
agenda as we want to win the league, and I urge my players to take each match
as a final,” said Ochieng.
“I love their resilience, discipline and determination and I
have no doubt that they will make me and the team at large proud.”
With the Women’s Premier League mid-season transfer window
set to close on February 2, 2026, Ochieng has also moved quickly to strengthen
his squad.
“One of my major challenges was defense and midfield
departments which have been a bit shaky, but we are on the last stage of
acquiring two new players to bolster the squad and we are not releasing any
player. I can’t reveal their identities because I feel it’s too early but all
shall be known when they sign the contracts,” noted the tactician.
“Their arrival will be a big blessing to me because their
experience and talent will fuel our expectations to win the league. I’m happy
that so far, I have no injury doubts and all my players are in good shape,” he
added.
Elsewhere in Sunday’s fixtures, Kisumu All Starlets held Trinity Starlets to a 2-2 draw at Moi Stadium, Zetech Sparks beat Kisped Queens 3-1 at Mamboleo Stadium, while Vihiga Queens and Bungoma Queens settled for a 1-1 draw at the same venue.
