Mathare Queens secured a 2–0 victory over Bandari Queens in a thrilling Women’s National Super League encounter at Mbaraki Stadium, with forward Judith Ochieng netting twice to seal the win at Mbaraki Sports Club.
Ochieng opened the scoring in the 16th minute, skillfully
looping the ball over Bandari goalkeeper Belinda Ochieng to give the visitors
an early lead.
The hosts, Bandari Queens, pushed hard for an equalizer
through Happy Mutta, Chilo Chikophe, and Saumu, but squandered several
promising chances and went into halftime trailing 1–0.
In the 58th minute, Bandari had a golden opportunity to
level the scores when Happy Mutta dribbled past Mathare defender Valentine
Khwaka, but her effort was denied by a resolute backline.
Mathare Queens doubled their advantage in the 80th minute,
with Judith Ochieng once again looping the ball over the advancing Belinda
Ochieng — a mirror image of her first goal — to seal all three points for the
visitors.
The defeat marked Bandari Queens’ first loss of the season
after their opening-day win over Mombasa Olympic.
Despite the setback, head coach Jonathan Washe praised his
team’s spirit.
“We tried hard — it was just bad luck. They scored two
similar goals, and we’ll work to fix those mistakes moving forward,” said Washe
after the match.
On her part Mathare Queens head coach Ann Aluoch lauded her
team’s composure and resilience.
“Playing away always comes with pressure, but I’m proud of
how my players handled it. They stayed composed and earned the maximum points,”
Aluoch said.
