ODM party leader Dr Oburu Oginga has said he will issue a directive on how the party will engage President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 political formations.
Speaking in Siaya County, Oburu reiterated that the party
has not signed any coalition agreement and is currently focused on
strengthening its membership before engaging in any form of negotiations.
While slamming those he said are detractors undermining his
leadership within the party, Oburu said he will outline the course for the
Orange party, expressing confidence in securing prime positions in the next
political dispensation.
He also rallied support for the broad-based arrangement,
which he said bears the hallmark of ODM values, that of service to the people.
“The broad-based arrangement in which we are before
it ends in 2027, we are going to negotiate an arrangement where we are now part
and parcel of the government. As of now, we are in a broad-based arrangement
which is not yet a coalition in government, we are not in a coalition in UDA,” said
Oburu.
Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi called
on Oburu to take charge of negotiations between ODM and UDA as the country
heads into the next election cycle.
“Dr Oburu Oginga, as we begin a new year, as we begin 2026, I
want to plead with you to take charge and lead us in negotiations between ODM
and UDA so that we can enter into a pre-election agreement as soon as possible,”
the CS stated.
Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owili urged party members to
remain united and to follow Oburu’s leadership.
Owili said, “Let us watch the lips of Dr Oburu Oginga
Odinga. If we are to walk, let us follow the steps of Dr Oburu Oginga Odinga. Hii
kelele yote tunaiskia hapa lazima ikome.”
On his part, Internal Security Principal Secretary Dr
Raymond Omollo called on Kenyans to support the current administration, saying
it is implementing projects aimed at improving livelihoods.
“This is your government, these are your leaders and we must
support them because through this good leadership we can see the benefits and
we can count what is going on not just in Siaya but across the country,” he
noted.
The leaders were speaking at a widows’ empowerment programme in Siaya County.
