Oburu Oginga reveals Ruto organized Raila’s travel to India for treatment

Speaking during the funeral service at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), Oburu revealed that President Ruto facilitated transportation for the late political premier to India and always sought frequent updates on his health.

"I want to thank his excellency the president, who has stood with us right from the time I told him that Raila was sick, we were with him and Raila, and we sat down organized, and he agreed,” Oburu said.

“And he is the one who organized the transport which flew Raila to India for treatment. I also want to tell you that he kept a vigil, and he always checked on Raila to know what was happening with him. The day Raila died, I first of all called him and told him he was in a critical condition.”

Oburu, also the Siaya Senator, thanked the President for facilitating the return of Odinga's remains and giving him a decent send-off.

"All this arrangement was too heavy for the family. I don’t know whether I would have collapsed if everything had been placed on my shoulders to take care of this big crowd here. Thank you, thank you, your excellency,” he said.

After announcing Odinga's death on October 15, President Ruto dispatched a delegation of more than 30 Kenyan leaders comprising senior government officials, politicians and members of the Odinga family to India to facilitate the repatriation of Odinga’s body to Kenya.

Odinga will be laid to rest next to his father's grave in Bondo, next to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga's mausoleum in the village of Kang'o ka Jaramogi.
