Head coach Jeffers Odongo was all smiles after Soy United secured their first away win of the 2025/2026 National Super League (NSL) season, a 2-0 triumph over Nzoia Sugar FC on Sunday at Sudi Stadium.

Odongo described the result as a milestone in the team’s ongoing development and praised the players’ tactical discipline and fighting spirit.

“We’ve been working on winning away from home, and today, thanks to the boys’ commitment and God’s blessing, we managed to secure our first clean sheet on the road,” Odongo said.

The coach explained that the team had tailored their approach to counter Nzoia’s style, adopting a low defensive block while relying on the pace and positioning of players like Jonte and Deko to create scoring opportunities.

The match also saw the NSL debut of 16-year-old Sydney Amutalla, whose composure and creativity impressed the coaching staff. Odongo noted, “Sydney is still in school, but he’s creative and confident. Giving young players experience while competing at the senior level is part of our club’s vision.”

Reflecting on the significance of the win, Odongo said it was a key step in translating Soy United’s strong home form to away fixtures.

“We’ve seen good performances at home, but achieving results away is crucial. Today, we saw the fruits of our work paying off,” he added.

Odongo also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the travelling fans, whose support has been unwavering.

“To our fans who came to support us today, we thank you. Your presence motivates the players, and we hope to see you continue to cheer us on, both home and away,” he remarked.

The victory continues a positive run for Soy United, who have now won three consecutive matches in January, following victories over Mombasa United and Equity Bank. With 25 points from 16 games, the team sits ninth on the NSL table and will next face Kibera Blackstars, aiming to maintain momentum and continue blending tactical maturity with emerging talent.

Sunday’s win reinforced Odongo’s message that Soy United remains a work in progress, steadily building consistency, confidence, and a platform for both young and established players to thrive on and off the pitch.
