The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) first deputy president Barnaba Korir says cycling is making a splash in Kenya as the country hosts the 2025 Confederation of African Road Cycling Championships in Kwale County from Thursday.

Kenya is hosting the event for the second year running after Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties played host last year.

“This year’s event will be very exciting to follow because we have cyclists from over 30 countries and it being in Kwale during this holiday season, it will bring excitement to the locals and even the foreigners who will be around so I believe in the organization,” said Korir.

Korir also revealed that NOC-K is keen to support all federations as they bid to increase medal tally at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

“As NOCK our aim is to improve all federations and empower them without discrimination and that is why we will be in Kwale to support the cycling federation to make the event successful,” added Korir.

He also emphasised on the importance of local sports tourism, saying such events play a huge part in improving the economy.

“Sports tourism is big. We have seen how many foreigners show up for different sporting events in the country. This is another time for the country and the people of Kwale to benefit from sports,” state Korir.
