Keter, who was travelling with the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno, had recently secured a Teachers Service Commission (TSC) employment letter after years of waiting — a breakthrough his family hoped would change their fortunes.
At the family home, grief and disbelief filled the air as Keter’s mother, Grace Mutai, recounted their last moments together, including a promise he made to build her a house.
“Alikuwa ameniambia atanijengea nyumba… Carlos akasema mheshimiwa amenipigia acha niende nitarudi tuendelee kujenga nyumba,” she said.
Mutai said Keter had told her he needed to travel to Narok to pick his TSC letter and confirm his posting.
“Siku hiyo tukikunywa chai… akaniambia mum nilikuwa niende Narok nichukue barua nijue mahali nitaenda,” she said.
His sister, Chepkorir Happiness, said she last spoke to him late at night after he asked for money to withdraw cash, but later found his phone had gone off, leaving her worried.
“Around 11:45pm akaniambia… nitumie 1000… nikaenda nikafanya hivyo. Kurudi nikampigia nikapata ameenda off nikapatwa na wasiwasi,” she said.
Family members said what should have been a new beginning has turned into a period of deep sorrow as they begin burial preparations.
“Alikuwa anataka kunijengea nyumba… akasema kwa vile nimepata barua mama hautapata shida tena,” Mutai added.
As condolences continue to pour in, the family said they are struggling to accept the loss, describing Keter as their hope and a young man whose plans were cut short.
