The Kenya Rugby Union officially named the national sevens squads for the Lionesses and Shujaa on Friday at RFUEA Grounds, confirming the teams that will represent the country in the remaining two legs of the HSBC SVNS 2 Series in Montevideo (March 21–22) and São Paulo, Brazil (March 28–29).

Head coach Simon Odongo has selected a 12-player Lionesses squad blending experience, returning talent and fresh energy as the team looks to improve significantly on their recent home performance in Nairobi.

Forwards:

Naomi Amuguni, Charity Otengo, Stella Wafula, Christabel Lindo, Faith Livoi, Sheila Chajira (captain)

Backline:

Judith Naliaka, Judith Auma (returning from injury), Sinaida Mokaya, Maureen Muritu, Janet Okello, Marvel Oswago and Freshia Oduor who will serve as vice-captain.

The inclusion of Auma, who has recovered from injury, adds depth to the backline, while Chajira's leadership is expected to provide stability in the forwards.

Coach Odongo challenged the team to raise their standards after a disappointing showing in the Nairobi leg, with the focus now on consistency and execution in the high-pressure South American tournaments.

Kevin Wambua named his 13-player Shujaa squad, retaining a core group that has gained valuable experience over the years while aiming to adapt quickly to the time zone changes in South America.

Forwards:

George Ooro (co-captain), Kevin Wekesa, John Okoth, Vincent Onyala, Gabriel Ayimba, Denis Abukuse

Backline:

Samuel Asati (co-captain), Nygel Amaitsia, Chrisant Ojwang, Floyd Wabwire, Festus Shiasi, Patrick Odongo, David Nyangige, Brian Tanga

Wambua emphasised the importance of building on recent growth: "In terms of the squad we've developed, we've grown and gained a lot of experience. We just need to ensure we adapt quickly to the time zone," he said.

Both squads will depart for Montevideo shortly, with the Montevideo leg marking the penultimate event before the series finale in São Paulo.

For the Lionesses, the trip offers a chance to turn around their form and build momentum, while Shujaa aim to maintain their competitive edge and push for strong finishes in the final stages of SVNS 2.
