Supporters of a Narok Member of Parliament who was recently
elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket on Wednesday clashed with
those of his rival, whom he defeated in the party primaries.
The two rival groups engaged in a violent confrontation at
Mboleo area in the early morning hours, using crude weapons including clubs and
arrows, ahead of President William Ruto’s second day of his tour of Narok
County.
Several people were injured in the clash and are receiving
treatment at various health facilities, including Kaplong, Ndanai and Kap
Cherllis hospitals in Chebunyo Ward, Bomet County.
The confrontation was reportedly triggered by reports that
plans were underway to prevent the newly-elected MP from addressing President
Ruto during his visit to the area.
The reports angered his supporters, who are said to have
confronted those of his former rival over who had the backing to welcome and
address the President.
The confrontation escalated, with the two groups engaging in a
physical fight and using crude weapons against each other.
Transmara East Police Boss Kobia Boriu confirmed the incident,
saying he is leading investigations into the clash.
