A 17-year-old boy is receiving treatment at the Narok County Referral Hospital after he was allegedly assaulted by a police officer while in custody at the Naroosura Police Station in Narok County.

The minor had been arrested in August on suspicion of stealing tractor spare parts in Naroosura. He was reportedly detained for several weeks and later presented in court this week to answer to fresh charges of breaking into a shop and stealing KSh 34,000.

According to reports, police officers declined to return the boy to the station’s cells after his court appearance due to the severity of his injuries.

The boy’s mother, Grace Takona, has appealed for justice, claiming her son was brutally beaten while in police custody.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has since launched investigations into the incident.
