Kemeloi-Maraba Member of County Assembly in Nandi County, is facing a backlash over threats directed at residents opposed to President William Ruto’s re-election bid.

Truphosa Kuto who took to the podium at a funeral in Koloch, Nandi County, on Saturday, was quoted warning residents that those who support another presidential candidate would be forced to leave the county.

"Kuna wale wengine walikuwa wameanza kupeleka kura zao kule Hamisi wakienda kutafuta Sifuna huko sijui kutafuta nani, rudisheni kura zenu huku na mpigie Ruto iwe two term hiyo ndio tunataka si nimesema vizuri hapa ani Nandi hakuna kusema Sifuna hapa ukisema Sifuna utarudi huko Hamisi mkisema Sifuna mtashika njia hadi wapi…hapa ni Nandi tunasema tuterm,” she said.

Her remarks have since drawn sharp criticism from leaders, including fellow Nandi MCAs, who have condemned them as inflammatory and divisive.

"Nandi kuna kabila zote tunaishi vizuri tukisaidiana kuomba kura ni kwa unyenyekevu. Ingekua vizuri mheshimiwa akiomba kura aambie wananchi vile rais amefanya kuliko kuomba nikama anawalazimisha,” Kaptuya Ward MCA Jackson Kevolwe said.

The leaders have called on Kuto to issue an immediate apology and urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to take legal action against her.

"Tunaheshimu watu wetu na tunaheshimu rais...lakini asipoomba msamaha, asasi za serikali zimchukulie hatua,” Kapkangani Ward MCA Eliud Kirongo added.

Meanwhile, former Makadara legislator Reuben Ndolo has appeared before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over allegations that he mobilised goons to disrupt a political meeting in Siaya County.

"He has explained himself. We will issue a determination,” said NCIC Chair Dr Kepha Omae.

In his defence, Ndolo claimed he is an agent of peace, calling on other leaders to borrow a leaf from him.

“Let us be friendly and look for young generation,” Ndolo on his part said.

Ndolo made the remarks at a church gathering in Donholm on October 18, claiming he had financed goons.

However, his lawyer maintains that the commission has yet to present any evidence to support the allegations.
