The outfit opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Fortune Sacco in their season opener last weekend, a result that placed them fifth on the table, level on points with early leaders Nzoia Sugar.
Speaking to Citizen Digital ahead of their next fixture, Naivas FC jead coach Elvis Ayani expressed optimism, saying his players are ready for another strong performance, but expects a tough test from MCF, who will be desperate to bounce back after suffering defeat in their opening match.
“It’s going to be a competitive clash because MCF will come hungry for their first win,” Ayani said.
Beyond the on-field battle, the tactician also highlighted the logistical and financial hurdles that clubs face in the NSL.
The second-tier league brings together 20 teams from across Kenya, often requiring long-distance travel to fulfill fixtures. According to the coach, this has placed a heavy burden on many teams’ budgets.
“The cost of travelling upcountry for most of these games is very high. FKF should prioritize finding a league sponsor to help ease these operational challenges,” he added.
Despite the difficulties, Ayani remains optimistic that his squad can build on their strong start and challenge for promotion to the Kenya Premier League later in the season.
