Nairobi Polo Club Club fall to Lagos

The Nairobi Polo Club suffered a
setback in their latest international assignment after falling 5–2 to the Lagos
Polo Club in the just-concluded Lagos Incoming Tour held at the Nairobi Polo
Club grounds.
The defeat denied the Kenyan side
a chance to defend the title they won back in February, marking a contrasting
outcome from their earlier triumph over Abuja during the Chairman’s Polo Cup,
where Nairobi edged the Nigerians 5–4.
The two-day tournament featured
high-intensity action, tactical brilliance, and top-tier skill.
Lagos came into the tournament
highly prepared and quickly adapted to the event’s pace and
environment—particularly the horses, which proved to be an advantage.
Nairobi, despite showing improved
coordination in the second half, struggled to close the performance gap,
allowing Lagos to dominate crucial phases of the match.
Speaking after the match, Nairobi
Polo Club’s Kelvin Ajumba hailed Lagos as a formidable opponent and commended
the competitive spirit displayed throughout the tournament.
“The Lagos team played really
well and adjusted very fast to the horses,” Ajumba said. “Even though we lost,
we’ve picked a few lessons that will help us grow. Beyond the sport, we’re
building a long-lasting partnership and creating exchanges that will foster
cooperation between Kenya and Nigeria.”
Despite the defeat, the Nairobi Polo
Club remains optimistic.
Their February win against Abuja remains a
highlight of their 2025 campaign, and the exposure gained from the Lagos tour
is expected to enhance their preparation for future regional and international
competitions.
The tournament also forms part of
events held in honour of the late Simon Kuseyo, celebrated as one of Kenya’s
best polo talents.
