Nairobi among areas to face heavy rains from Saturday - Met warns

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall expected in several parts of the country from over the weekend through to the New Year period.
In an advisory issued on Saturday, December 27, the Met Department said rainfall exceeding 20 millimetres would start from the southeastern lowlands within 24 hours before spreading to other parts of the country.
"The rainfall is likely to intensify to more than 30mm/24hrs and spread to the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, as well as the southern parts of the coastal region of Kenya on 28th and 29th December 2025,” the advisory reads.
According to the department, the rains are expected to be
moderate to heavy, with a moderate probability of occurrence ranging between 33
and 66 per cent.
Counties listed as areas of concern include Migori, Homa
Bay, Kisii, Narok, Kajiado, Makueni, Machakos, Nairobi, Kericho and Bomet.
Others are the southern parts of Kitui, Taita-Taveta and Kwale.
The Met Department noted that the rainfall is projected to
decrease in intensity on December 30.
Residents in all the affected areas have been advised to remain alert and be on the lookout for potential floods.
The Weatherman said it will issue updates should there
be any changes in the forecast.
